Today, we proudly hosted our very first Ukrainian Pysanka (Easter Egg Painting) Workshop at St. Mary’s Church Hall in Niagara Falls.
The pysanka is a powerful symbol of spring renewal and an essential part of Easter tradition. These beautifully decorated eggs represent life, hope, and resilience. When created by hand, their meaning becomes even deeper — each one carrying a personal story and a piece of the artist’s heart.
Community members from across the Niagara region joined us to learn this cherished Ukrainian tradition, guided by our wonderful instructor, Melanie Ker Woronchak, a second-generation Ukrainian Canadian and an experienced pysanka artist. She generously shared her knowledge, techniques, and love for this ancient art form.
Whether participants were experienced artists or holding a pysachok for the very first time, everyone discovered that the most important ingredient is the desire to create and the willingness to put a piece of your soul into your work.
The finished pysanky exceeded all expectations. It was inspiring to watch a simple egg transform — from a blank canvas into a true work of art — filled with colour, meaning, and joy.
We are deeply grateful to St. Mary’s Church, Father Victor Nazartchyk, and Oksana for their generous support, providing the space, refreshments, and warm hospitality that made this workshop possible.
This Pysanka Workshop became much more than an art class — it was a moment of connection, reflection, relaxation, and cultural healing for our community.
